Merritt Chapter Back Roads Tour
June 8 – 10th, 2007
Organized by Carl Jurreit /John Rostron
Friday morning
Merritt members left under sunny skies heading for Kamloops. In the
meantime Kamloops members were having breakfast at the A & W
putting in time, waiting for the Merritt group. When the time to meet
arrived it turned out that both groups arrived at the same time. We
then had a nice cruise on Campbell Creek Road over to Barnhartvale
where we met up with the balance of the Kamloops group. Total eighteen
cars, making it a nice size group to handle.
With every one there we headed for Falkland where a
lunch stop had been planned. Not to overdo one restaurant we split into
two groups. Following lunch a visit to the local Antique shop was in
order. Don’t know if anyone found any treasures. Now 1:30 and time to
hit the road again. As we turned the corner onto Salmon River Road we
found we had time in the schedule to stop at the General Store for an
ice cream cone. Not necessary but appreciated.
Back on the road we travel 12 miles then it was time
to stop for the grown boys could enjoy an adult male toy store [auto
wreckers]. It was neat to see the old stuff and the potential that was
there. Great for picture taking. I understand some were going to stop
on the way back home to purchase some found treasures.
Next official stop was the Armstrong Chamber of
Commerce for a welcome and to pick up maps of the area. After everyone
had checked into the motel it was over to the Greek Restaurant for
supper. As it turned out Dickinson’s ended up with a suite so it became
the social room. The day finished up with refreshments and lots of
stories followed up with many laughs.
Saturday morning took us to the local Cheese Factory
where some picked up lunches. At 9:30 we headed out on one of the back
roads over to the Tool Museum. What a display of tools and surprising
how many were operational. It was a short run down hill to Grinrod for
lunch. Some had lunches other headed for the pub. Following lunch was a
visit to the Hub Cap store.
Back on the road again this time another Back Road
taking us into Enderby for time to visit Antique Stores and the two
Flea Markets. Then the rains came. Wow did it rain and rain some more
enough that it was decided that the drive in was out. The trip back to
Armstrong from Enderby found us on another back road.
At 5:00 we headed for the A & W for carhop
service however with the weather the way it was we all went inside for
service. The service was great along with gifts, door prizes and food
discounts. A number of the North Okanagan Chapter joined us for supper.
John was present with a card of thanks for putting on such a great tour.
Sunday took us out for a garage tour and then back to Falkland in time
for a Show and Shine at the Stampede grounds. Then it was time to say
good by to everyone and head home. Everyone had fun, as this is what
owning a Vintage Car is about. Socializing and driving Vintage. Thanks
to everyone that help make it a successful weekend.
