The
Vintage Car Club was established in 1958. In 2008, to commemorate the
Club’s 50th anniversary, the Board of Governors has authorized a
Driving Tour from July 3 to 12, 2008, in place of the usual May Tour.
The
Okanagan Chapter will organize the Tour as well as the wind-up
weekend/banquet in Kelowna. The Tour will start and end in Kelowna. The
driving portion will take nine days and will include the Okanagan,
Columbia and Kootenay regions of the province. The cities where we will
spend a night are Nakusp, Revelstoke, Golden, Radium, Cranbrook,
Creston, Nelson, Grand Forks and Kelowna.
We expect
that there will be about 400 people and 200 cars involved in the Tour.
If you would like to be part of this exciting tour, you can register
now. There will be a deposit of $75.00 per registration to hold a place
on the Tour. The registration fee will be $150.00 per person.
Because
200 cars would be a very large group, we have divided the registrants
into two equal sections of about 100 cars each. One group will travel
in a clockwise direction while the other group travels in a
counter-clockwise direction. Having two groups has made it easier to
find accommodation and will allow the groups to visit interesting sites
without too much congestion.
The group
traveling in a “clockwise” direction is called Group “A” and will spend
their first night in Nakusp while group “B” will travel in a
“counter-clockwise” direction and their first night is Grand Forks. If
you would like to travel with friends, all of you should request the
same group.
We have
personally contacted many motels in each city. Every person who
registers will be given a list of suitable motels and campgrounds in
each city. Each participant will be responsible for making motel or
campsite reservations.
The most
expensive city we will visit is Kelowna. We are using the facilities of
the University as our headquarters and banquet site. U.B.C. Okanagan
has student residences that are considerably less expensive than motels
and hotels so many of our registrants will probably choose to stay
there.
When the
tour starts, in July 2008, each vehicle will receive a booklet
outlining the important sites and activities for each day’s drive.
There will be a separate page for each day and we will include many
suggestions for activities along the route. Due to the size of the
groups, we will not attempt to keep everyone together but will
encourage people to travel in small groups. You can choose the types of
activities that most suit your interests. If there are specially
planned activities in specific cities, we will put the details in the
daily information package.
We have
contacted the VCCC Chapters in Revelstoke, Golden and Nelson and they
will offer us some assistance as we pass through their towns.
You are
invited to arrive in Kelowna on Wednesday, July 2. There will be a wine
and cheese reception from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at U.B.C. Okanagan (near
the Kelowna airport). On the morning of Thursday, July 3, 2008 we will
leave the parking lot of U.B.C. Okanagan to formally begin the Tour. We
will return to Kelowna for the night of Friday July 11, 2008.
The
registration fee includes 2 wine and cheese receptions, three complete
breakfasts, an information package, goodie bag, banquet in Kelowna,
prizes and entertainment, etc. If you would like to register, you can
print the registration form below and send it to the address
given. The Registrar will then send you a 'Confirmation Package'
that includes comprehensive information regarding accommodations block
booked for the 2008 Driving Tours.
The 2008 Anniversary Tour Committee hope you will join us in this adventure.
