Kamloops Chapter Easter Parade 2009
The day started as
usual with our pancake breakfast cooked on the club trailer at Westsyde
Park for our members attending the parade. This year a number of the
Merritt Chapter joined us for breakfast before parade line up.
Following breakfast we headed over to the shopping center at Westsyde
for the parade lineup. The cars are all checked as they show up as they
must be originals and at least 25 years old. In other words no rods or
customs are welcome. Since 1985 each year we feature a different marque
of a car. This year it was Corvettes. I don’t know what it will be next
year as I think we are running out of different marques.
We had a good turnout of cars, just short of 100. This year we had four
RCMP on motorcycles plus the Shriners Motorcycle Corps helping with
traffic control. The parade went very smoothly as the four RCMP on the
motorcycles took turns traveling back and forth over the length of the
parade keeping the cars close together.
The parade ended up downtown at Riverside Park where the cars remained
on display until 3:00 pm. The club trailer was once again set up, this
time to sell coffee & goodies to the public.
Dick Parkes, our Parade Chairman, seems to in good with the weatherman
as we seem to always have good weather at least no rain. The club says
that he has a permanent position as Chairman of the Easter Parade.
