Island Challenge 2011
The
Island challenge this year was in the Port Albernie area, therefore
called the Over the Hump tour. The weather cooperated for a very
pleasant drive around the many roads in the valley. We visited the train
museum, fire fighting museum, the Mars water bomber and the only steam
opperating sawmill left in this country.
As usual in these events we ate until we were stuffed. There was a
significant number of mainland members here this time. We had an
excellent lunch at the Chase & Warren estate winery. The Hoffman
clan were there in spades and this is where they carried out the
handover ceremony of the 1910 Canadian built Russel from Vern Wellburn
to Sandy Holcik. So we hope to see this car out on many tours in the
near future. Sandy was taking driving lessons from George, but it seemed
like George was having so much fun that he was reluctant to hand the
wheel over to Sandy. You need to get your T running again George.
Peter Gagan brought out his 1914
belt driven Zenith motorcycle with its continuously variable
transmission. Since he didn't have a riding copilot, he missed a turn
and took his own tour out towoards Tofino. He enjoyed it none the less.
The tour committee deserves
a hearty vote of thanks for putting on another successful event. Next
year's May Tour may see some of this area, so if you missed it....
