Island Challenge 2006 September 8-9. 2006
The
2006 Island Challenge was hosted by the Victoria Chapter. The
tour committee, chaired by Bill Bouchard, did a terrific job of putting
on a scenic and entertaining weekend. The tour was open to cars
built prior to 1928 and over 20 over them participated. The
oldest car was Dave Proctor's 1910 REO, a regular on these events.
The Saturday morning drive departed
Sydney and followed a scenic route around the Saanich peninsula.
The windy, narrow backroads drew everyone's thoughts back to an earlier
era of motoring. Several steep hills provided an adequate
challenge (low gear for some of the older cars) but there were no
casualties.
Lunch was provided at the Salvation
Army Citadel in Victoria and the day ended at the B.C. Aviation
Museum. The evening banquet wrapped up a most enjoyable day.
For those who were able to stay over,
the Victoria Chapter's annual corn roast was held the next day.
It was another chance to visit, enjoy the food, and swap car tales.
Thanks to Bill and his committee -
Jane Thomas, Heinz Mueller, Pete Seward, Paul Taylor, and Liz Taylor
-for the hard work they put in to making this weekend work. It
all paid off!
This event will be hosted in Campbell River next September - Mark your calendar now and plan to attend.
