The Vintage Car Club of the South Okanagan, which includes members in neighboring towns such as Summerland, Keremeos, Princeton, OK Falls, Oliver, Osoyoos, and Oroville Washington, was formed in 1973.  The southern club started breaking records in 1977 when Della Kroeger became the first Woman president of any vintage club in Canada. Then in 1990 Ray Adams became the first American president of any vintage club in Canada.

In 1985 and 1995, the National May Tours were held in Penticton: the Sun Country Tours I & II.  Perhaps there will be a Sun Country Tour III.
In 1988 in conjunction with the Okanagan and North Okanagan Chapters, we held the 27th Annual Canadian-American International Antique Car Meet in Penticton.
In 1990 the Antique Studebaker Club was hosted by the South Okanagan Chapter.  In 2002 the Wandering Wheels Tour hosted by the Leirs attracted pre-1915 cars representing the Horseless Carriage Club of America.

Two  major events are held annually by this Chapter.  The Cherry Lane Car Show, held in Penticton during the first week of April 2007, features members' cars in the local mall. The Club will continue to attract the attention of the public by including their input into a "People's Choice" award, creating displays that depict the fashions, styles and designs of the decades represented by the vehicles.  The Penticton Swap Meet, which was cancelled this year due to city construction will, resume in 2008.

ANNUAL SWAP MEET IN PENTICTON        APRIL 26, 2008
Chairman:  Leon Rumpf      lsrumpf@shaw.ca   250-494-5051
Registration: Audrey Leir    jim-aud@shaw.ca    250-494-4109

The annual swap meet is held each spring at The Curling Rink, situated next to Highway 97, selected for its high visibility, huge parking lot (no more tow trucks) has huge customer-potential. Address: 505 Railway Avenue.

NOTE: DETOUR TO CURLING RINK:   Coming from Kelowna, turn left at first light. Follow signs and arrows on Westminster. Turn right at Railway Ave. Follow signs in parking lot to the Curling Rink.

Coming from Channel Parkway, past Canadian Tire, turn left at light, follow signs and arrows that will take you to Westminster, then Railway Avenue, follow signs in parking lot to the Curling Rink.
The city has cancelled overnight RV parking by the curling rink.

We welcome vendors who are interested in selling ANTIQUE, VINTAGE, CUSTOM, STREET RODS, MUSCLE CARS and PARTS.  This year we are expanding to include ANTIQUE MACHINERY CLUBS that specialize in tractors and engines. The older and rustier the better.

We regret to announce that the city has decided to contract out the food service facility. Breakfast will be served at 8, lunch at noon. We will miss our entertaining buddies who capably managed Kelowna's Kruisin' Kitchen for so many years.

With emphasis on the automotive theme only a few tables will be allocated for ANTIQUES and COLLECTIBLES (household items, fashions, toys, literature).

We are a family oriented club, with an emphasis on outdoor activities that include camping, scavenger hunts, mystery tours, and parades.  Members bring friends, pets, children and even in-laws to events.  Having an old car is not a pre-requisite, just a genuine interest in the unique events associated with our club. Lately our members have been locating vintage clothes so we can pose like these gangsters, Baby Face Bob and Lucky Lloyd with their getaway car produced by the Dodge Brothers in 1934.
