Quesnel Chapter
On April 17, 1988 a group of old car buffs held a meeting to see if there was interest in the community to form a car
club. Enough interest was shown and a club was formed in May when we applied to
be accepted as a chapter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada, by the end of the year we had 37 members. The first
executive was Chair Sam Cork, Vice Dave Laser, Secretary Norma Lee, Treasurer Ruby Trudeau, Correspondent Dora McMillan,
Governor and Historian Richard Lee.
We have always tried to make this family oriented club with children and grandparents welcome to all events.
In the early years we held sleigh rides during the winter months. An Easter bonnet contest at out annual birthday party.
Vintage outfits, to match the year of the car were owned and worn by most members. One event that has always remained
is our Father’s Day Run and Picnic. At this event we invite Williams Lake and Prince George Chapters to come
out and enjoy competitive games and good home cooked food, making this event great fun.
In 1992 our member Gary Schotel (Big Country Printers) took over the production of the club magazine.
The club members did all of the volunteer work for the mailing magazine. It was lots of work but a another
chance for a great get to together.
Over the years we have hosted several Vintage Car Tours coming through our community. It’s always interesting
to see other vintage cars and meet like minded car buffs. Each year we support the local Billy Barker Days
and enter as many as cars as possible in the parade and usually end the day off with a barbeque or luncheon.
What has turned into a very popular event in our club is our Spring Tour where we go on a 5 to 7 day tour as a group.
When passing through a town or city that has a car club we try and make contact and have an event together.
Lots of laughs and fun on these.
In support of our community and to pay back the generous support we have received we held a money raising event in 2000 with the
proceed going to the local “Dream for Kids”. In return their organization joined us at our Father’s Day
Run and cooked the burgers (a wonderful treat).
Friday nights beginning the 1st of May and running to October 1st we get together at 7pm at the A&W and
have a coffee and gab fest. Guests are welcome to join in.
Our meetings are kept on the light side with emphasis to enjoy ourselves while we help others to find parts or information
and plan events – to help everyone to use their car as much as possible in the short summer season we have.
