1966 Plymouth Satellite
Angela Holbrook - Golden Ears Chapter
Feature Car - Sadie - as told by the Car
Hello,
I’m ‘Sadie’, a 1966 Plymouth Satellite Convertible, although some people
call me a Belvedere. In fact when I
was purchased new from Lipsett Motors in Kelowna, British Columbia I was listed
as a ‘Belvedere’ Convertible. That
was on March 19th, 1966. My new
owner was Joseph Dinn of Kelowna. I
was looked after really well; my service records prove that.
However, I seem to have lost my memory after July 17, 1970 with 26053
miles on me.
I
do know that in 1981 Roy Edwards of Kelowna was my owner, but in 1983 he sold me
to Dave Wood of Westbank. Dave
took me to live in Chatham, Ontario in the spring of 1987.
I didn’t know about this, I liked the climate in British Columbia much
better. And, Dave didn’t have a
garage to keep me in. What was I to
do?
It
was shortly after I moved to Chatham that I met Angela.
It was love at first sight. WOW!
She babied me and took me in parades and on tours and introduced me to
many other cars as well as a relative of mine, her 1937 Dodge.
One
of the great trips we made was 10 days touring the back roads of Ontario and
Quebec - from Chatham to Peterborough to Ottawa and Montreal and back, never
going over 50 miles an hour, and almost always with the top down.
That was fun! Then I heard
that Angela wanted to move to British Columbia.
I couldn’t believe I might be going home again!
In
November of 1987 I was loaded into a truck and shipped out to the coast.
I arrived in Richmond and was parked outside with my back window
unzipped. It was raining hard and I
tried to tell the movers I was getting wet, but they wouldn’t listen.
It took Angela days to get all the water out of the boot and trunk.
But, I was home again!
I
became a ‘daily driver’ and really wasn’t happy.
Then one day some big truck (well it looked big to me) didn’t stop at a
stop sign and rammed right into my door. That’s
when I met Vern at False Creek Automotive.
He helped Angela find a body shop to fix me up.
I’ve had enough driving in rush hour.
I just want to go to parades and on special trips.
Angela listened to me and after that accident decided to drive me just
for pleasure. We took many trips back to the Okanagan with friends and
family who visited from Ontario, but I never did look up my previous owners.
In
1991 I was privileged to drive Angela and Del Holbrook on their honeymoon trip
down the coast into California and back. I
loved driving on the sand; and the trees are sure big down there.
We visited Mount St. Helens and Crater Lake, things I don’t ever
remember seeing before.
In
1992 I was honoured when I received my Collector Plates.
I was sure now that I would live forever!
After a new paint job and some electrical work, I feel great! I don’t feel my age, and believe it or not I have 115931 miles on me now. During the winter of 2004 Angela says she is going to replace my carpet, make sure my clock and radio work well and rechrome a few things on my dash. After that all I’ll need is new upholstery – the back seat looks good but my driver’s seat is a bit worn, so maybe we’ll get that fixed up another year.
